About Dr. Philippe De Ryck

As the founder of Pragmatic Web Security, he travels the world to train developers on web security and security engineering. World-leading tech companies, financial institutions, and healthcare companies rely on Philippe to keep their developers up-to-date with the latest security best practices.
Philippe’s Ph.D. in web security from KU Leuven (Belgium) lies at the basis of his exceptional knowledge of the security landscape. During his Ph.D., he published a book titled “Primer on client-side web security”. He also built the university’s critically acclaimed online course on web security. After running a commercial web security training program for the university, Philippe has become an independent web security expert.
In 2018, Philippe was invited to join a select number of developers in the Google Developer Expert program. The Google Developer Expert title serves as a recognition for his community contributions on security in Angular applications.
In 2020, Philippe was invited to join a select number of ambassadors in the Auth0 Ambassador program. The Auth0 Ambassador title serves as a recognition for his community contributions on identity, authentication, and authorization.
Philippe is also a board member of SecAppDev.org, a non-profit aiming to improve the current state of practice in security engineering. Philippe is the main organizer of the yearly week-long SecAppDev course. Under Philippe’s leadership, the course has leveled up, drawing speakers and attendees from all over the world. In 2019, Philippe also launched the course's Inclusive Scholarship program.
